West Indies' batter Amir Jangoo earns maiden Test call-up for Pakistan series

The West Indies Cricket Board has released the squad for their two-match Test series against Pakistan, which is to begin on January 17, 2025, in Multan. Amir Jangoo, who recently gained news for scoring a century on his ODI debut against Bangladesh, has earned his maiden Test call-up. Also, spinner Gudakesh Motie also returns to strengthen the bowling unit in what will be the team’s final series of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Jangoo’s inclusion follows a string of impressive performances in regional cricket and the ability to handle spin, making him a valuable addition to the team. Motie’s return bolsters the spin department, an area the coaching staff seems keen to reinforce for subcontinental conditions.

Head coach Andre Coley seems to be confident in the team, saying,

“Our aim for this series is to build on the progress we made in 2024 and convert those lessons into success. Jangoo has shown great form and maturity, while Motie’s experience will be crucial on this tour.”

Pacer Shamar Joseph is not in the frame as he remains on the road to recovery from injury. Speedster Alzarri Joseph also is unavailable for selection and reasons remain undisclosed.

West Indies will begin their warm-up matches with a two-day warm-up match in Rawalpindi on January 11-12 before flying to Multan for both Test matches.
