A 16-year-old, with an ambition to play for Pakistan stepped onto the field of International Cricket, Shahid Afridi, who is now a sensation for all the youngsters around the globe. Afridi made his International Debut on 2nd October 1996 in One Day cricket. However, he did not get to bat but fate had written something else for him.
On this day, 4th October 1996, Shahid Afridi, A.K.A Boom Boom Afridi made his batting debut in the match against Sri Lanka. Adding his name to the record books by smashing a Record-Breaking and Historical Century on just 37 balls. He hit 11 sixes which is also a record.
It has been 25 years since Lala broke several records by scoring the fastest century, but it still feels like yesterday. The world record remained untouched for 19 years, but this record was broken by South Africa’s AB de Villiers. AB broke the record by scoring a century in just 31 balls.
Afridi not only represented Pakistan as the Captain of International level cricket, but he was also named one of the most Charitable Athletes in 2015. Boom Boom Afridi announced his retirement from international cricket in February 2017. His career lasted a total of 21 glorious years.
