With just one round left, hopes for the CSA T20 Challenge semi-finals remain high as the tournament continues at St George’s Park.
In the first match of the day, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins took on the Gbets Rocks in a battle for the third semi-final spot.
After winning the toss and electing to field first, the Dolphins’ bowling attack took control early in the game as Eathan Bosch (3/23 in 4 overs), dismissed Janneman Malan in the 2nd over with just 1 run. Bosch went on to dismiss Ferisco Adams (15), and Hardus Viljoen (15) as the Rocks line-up continued to collapse.
The Rocks captain, Pieter Malan top scored with 33 off 30 (4 boundaries), followed by Clyde Fortuin with 27 runs (1 boundary and 1 six), and Imraan Manack’s 11* at the end to see the Rocks end their innings with a total of 119 runs.
Prenelan Subrayen (2/18), claimed the wickets of Fortuin (27), and Michael Copeland (5), and Bryce Parsons (1/14 in 3 overs), dismissed Hlomla Hanabe (0). The Dolphins’ bowling attack was also supported by great fielding with the run outs of Shaun von Berg (3) and Siyabonga Mahima (2) as Rocks were 119/8 at the end of their 20 overs.
In what seemed like a low target and easy-run chase, the Rocks bowlers delivered another great performance to defend the set target.
Ferisco Adams (2/14 in 2 overs) struck first, dismissing Grant Roelofsen for 19, before running out Keegan Petersen (5) in the next delivery as Dolphins found themselves on 2/32 by the end of Powerplay. Adams also went on to dismiss Eathan Bosch in the 19th over with just 14 runs.
Marques Ackerman (23 off 23), and Khaya Zondo (24 off 23) showed great efforts in the middle before the strike of Ziyaad Abrahams (3/22 in 4 overs), dismissing Ackerman. Abrahams also claimed the wickets of Bryce Parsons (4), who was caught by Hardus Viljoen, followed by a clean ball to Kerwin Mungroo (2).
Shaun von Berg’s consistency throughout the tournament continued as he dismissed Jason Smith (1) and Zondo (24), recording (2/18 in 4 overs).
Andile Phehlukwayo (12) was run out by efforts from P. Malan and Adams, as Dolphins were restricted 111 runs at the end of their innings, with Rocks winning the game by 8 runs.
In the second match of the day, the ITEC Knights won the toss and elected to bat first against Imperial Lions.
The Lions bowlers were off to a great start, with Tshepo Ntuli recording 3/21 in 4 overs after dismissing Christoffel Klijnhans (0), Patrick Botha (5), and Migael Pretorius (4) as Lions restricted the Knights to 127 runs.
Opening batter, Jacques Snyman’s 39 off 27 (4 boundaries and 2 sixes), followed by an unbeaten 35* from Farhaan Behardien and Pite van Biljon (20), provided a great deal to the innings to see the Knights end their innings on 127/8.
Lions captain, Malusi Siboto recorded (3/18 in 3 overs), as he claimed the wickets of Snyman (29), Patrick Kruger (11) and Gregory Mahlokwana (4).
The Lions continued where their bowlers had left off with an unbeaten 67 off 55 from Mitchell Van Buuren (5 boundaries and 1 six), and Reeza Hendricks’ 34 off 31 (4 boundaries), to solidify the Lions innings after the early wickets of Shane Dadswell (1) and Kagiso Rapulana (2).
Gregory Mahlokwana (1/22 in 3 overs) dismissed Dadswell in the first over, and Alfred Mothoa (2/20 in 4 overs) dismissed Rapulana in the third over, creating major problems for the Lions in the Powerplay.
Reeza Hendricks (34), was caught by Mangaliso Mosehle (WK) off Mothoa’s bowling, followed by clean bowling from Snyman and Pretorius, dismissing Dominic Hendricks (5) and Sisanda Magala (4) respectively to see the Lions end the game on 130/5 in 19.1 overs, winning the game by 5 wickets.
