Legendary all-rounder Shahid Afridi has taken a dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after BCCI refused to tour Pakistan for next year’s Asia Cup. In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Afridi said that BCCI’s decision showcased a “lack of cricket administration experience in India”.
He also questioned BCCI Secretary Jay Shah’s statement bearing in mind the good relationship between the two teams over the past year.
“Neutral venue for Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided that we will not travel to Pakistan,” Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI and also the president of the ACC, said on Tuesday. “I have decided that we will play at a neutral venue.”
After PCB responded to ACC’s president Jay Shah remarks, Pakistani star, Shahid Khan Afridi retweeted the statement and quoted, “I like @TheRealPCB statement on the Asia Cup. This is how mature, sensible and professional organisations handle sensitive and important matters.”
It must be noted that BCCI has recently refused to tour Pakistan. BCCI will also insist on a neutral venue for the tournament. The Asia Cup in 2023 will be a 50-over event as it will be used to prepare for the ODI World Cup that will be taking place in India next year.
Keep in mind that India has not toured Pakistan since 2008 due to strained relations between the two countries. The last bilateral series between the arch-rivals took place in 2012 when Pakistan toured India for limited-overs matches.
Over the past few years, the two countries, Pakistan and India have only faced each other in ICC and ACC events.
