The Women’s East Asia Cup 2022 is currently running in Kaizuka, Japan. And, Hong Kong women have beaten the Japanese women by 8 wickets in the second match of the tournament.
After a good bowling performance from Hong Kong’s side, the Japanese women were able to score 91 runs playing 19.2 overs costing all their wickets. Then, Hong Kong women came to bat in the second inning to chase the target of 92 runs. While chasing the target of 92 runs in the second inning, Mariko Hill from Hong Kong made a good half-century that greatly helped Hong Kong to win the game.
The hosts, Japan, after winning the toss choose to bat first. Betty Chan and Ruchitha Venkatesh from Hong Kong’s side delivered excellent bowling that helped them take 4 and 3 wickets respectively for Hong Kong. Iqra Sahar and Mariko Hill joined them with one wicket each to restrict Japan to 91 runs in the first inning.
Hong Kong while chasing started with the openers Natasha Miles and Mariko Hill. Both the players played very well for Hong Kong. Natasha Miles made 21 off 23 balls while Mariko Hill played an unbeaten 51 runs off 39 balls to help Hong Kong win. Mariko finished the second inning with a four that also helped her make a half-century in the game. Hong Kong won the game against Japan by 8 wickets. Ahilya Chandel and Shizuka Miyaji were the two players from the side Japan to take wickets for Japan in the game.
The currently running Women’s East Asia Cup is the fourth edition of the kind and Japan is hosting the tournament for the very first time. China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea are regular members to play the Women’s Twenty20 East Asia Cup. But, since both China nor South Korea are not playing in this year’s tournament, Hong Kong and Japan are the only two teams playing in the tournament this year.
According to an article from Hong Kong Cricket, both China and South Korea are not in this edition of the tournament because of COVID-19 restrictions.
Hong Kong and Japan are playing four T20I matches to determine the winner of the tournament. The first match happened yesterday where Hong Kong won against the host Japan by 8 wickets chasing the target of 91 runs. Today, Hong Kong chasing the target of 92 runs against Japan made 93 runs with 40 balls to spare to win the game by 8 wickets. The remaining two matches of the tournament will be played each tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
