Shamyl Hussain, the left-handed batter born in Islamabad, has disclosed on his Twitter that the Pakistan Junior League’s (PJL) players were not paid despite offering their services to their respective teams.
Notably, the ex-chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mr Ramiz Raja, promised a hefty sum to all the U-19 cricketers for taking part in the T20 competitive league. However, as per Shamyl’s claims, the players were not paid as committed.
Mentioning the context, the PJL has been dismissed by the new management committee of the board chaired by Mr Najam Sethi. According to him, the apex board suffered massive losses, and such a league should be discontinued.
Since PJL was Ramiz’s dream project, he took it to Twitter to mourn over the tournament’s dismissal and wrote,
“All kids need is a little help, a little hope and somebody who believes in them.” – Magic Johnson. It is so sad that PJL has fallen to vendetta politics & rolled back even though 7 of the kids made it to PSL 8 emerging category & 3 are part of Pak vs NZ as reserves.
A local journalist, in reply, praised the idea of PJL and asked if the promised amount was too much. He suggested continuing to the league in a cost-effective manner. He penned out,
It was a great idea, but do you not think paying $22,000 to u19 kids is too much? I think PJL should still be played, but we can manage the costs better.
In response, the PJL player who represented Gwadar Sharks wrote,
We never got paid Haroon bhai (laughing emojis).
It is pertinent to mention that Raja is yet to confirm if or not the PJL players were paid.
