The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights auction has been delayed by four days and will now take place on January 16th. The event was originally scheduled for January 12th.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put some conditions in place for the auction. If the WIPL, which is set to start in March, does not occur this year, the rebidding process will be held in 2024.

At the same time, the BCCI has made it clear that it is not providing any guarantees regarding the participation of all five teams in the inaugural season. This information was included in the Invitation To Tender (ITT) document, stating that “if for any reason, five teams are not constituted to play in the league in Season 2023 or the league is not organized in Season 2023, then all the Media Rights Agreements shall stand terminated.”

Any interested parties must purchase the ITT document from the BCCI in order to submit a bid. However, simply purchasing the ITT does not entitle a person to bid. The BCCI has the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage.

It is important to note that once the five teams are selected, their participation in the league is subject to various terms and conditions. The BCCI has made it clear that it is not providing any assurances or guarantees regarding the participation of all five teams.

Overall, the media rights auction for the much-anticipated Women’s Indian Premier League has been postponed and will now take place on January 16th. The BCCI has put some conditions in place, including the possibility of a rebidding process if the league does not take place this year and the lack of guarantees for the participation of all five teams. Any interested parties must purchase the ITT document and meet the eligibility criteria in order to submit a bid, but the BCCI retains the right to cancel or modify the bidding process at any time.
