Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has provided some advice to Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi regarding his performance in the ongoing season of HBL Pakistan Super League. Shaheen conceded 39 runs in his four-over spell against Karachi Kings on Sunday and only managed to take one wicket, resulting in his team’s loss to their rivals by 67 runs.

According to Afridi, Shaheen needs to make better use of the bowling crease to his advantage. The former cricketer observed Shaheen’s bowling and also had a chat with him, noting that he was bowling too far away from the stumps, making it difficult to bring the ball back in. Afridi explained that bringing the ball back in from far away is not easy, and Shaheen should bowl from close to the stumps instead. He cited Wasim Akram’s example, who used to bring the ball back in by bowling from close to the stumps.

“I have been observing him and also had a chat with him. I think he is bowling too far away from the stumps. If you bowl from far away, it is a very big thing to bring the ball back in from there. It is not very easy,” Shahid said on a local TV channel.

“I think he needs to make better use of the crease. He needs to bowl from close to the stumps. Like we talk about Wasim Akram, he used to bring the bowl back in by bowling from close to the stumps,”

Afridi also emphasized that Shaheen needs to watch videos of his previous bowling to identify his mistakes. During the death overs, Shaheen was attempting to bowl too many Yorkers and ended up giving full tosses, leading to his expensive over. Afridi believes that Shaheen should correct his mistakes himself and remember the process that led him to success in the past.

“He was trying too hard, which is why he was expensive during the death overs. He was trying to bowl too many Yorkers, which turned into full tosses and he got hit for sixes,” he said.

“He needs to watch his videos and correct his mistakes himself. He needs to remember the process from the time, when he was doing well,”
