The Decision Review System (DRS) has been a topic of controversy in world cricket due to its ambiguity. Introduced in Test cricket in 2008, DRS was later applied in ODI and T20I cricket in 2011 and 2017, respectively. During the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, DRS was one of the major talking points, apart from the pitches. Batting great Sachin Tendulkar expressed his disappointment over the umpire’s call in the current DRS format at the India Today Conclave.
Tendulkar disagreed with the current format, stating that if the ball is hitting the stumps, it should be out, and if not, the batter should continue to bat. He also questioned why players go back to the decision of the on-field umpire if they are unhappy with it and have decided to go down the technology route. Tendulkar suggested that the DRS should be used exclusively and not mixed with the on-field umpire’s decision.
Tendulkar shared his views on DRS and said that he would have loved to take advantage of it during his playing days. He also acknowledged that some decisions would have gone in his favor, while others would not have.
However, Tendulkar reminded everyone that technology is not infallible and that umpires made mistakes even before the introduction of DRS. He believes that instead of blaming technology, we should acknowledge that both humans and technology are not perfect.
In conclusion, Sachin Tendulkar disagrees with the current DRS format in cricket. He believes that if technology is being used, it should be used exclusively and not mixed with the on-field umpire’s decision. He also reminds us that technology is not infallible and that we should not solely blame it for mistakes in cricket matches.
