Pakistan’s former seamer, Umar Gul, will continue his role as the team’s bowling coach for the upcoming New Zealand series. The former pacer also served as Pakistan’s bowling coach during the recently-concluded T20I series against Afghanistan. However, there have been reports that Mickey Arthur is gearing up to make a comeback as the national team’s consultant. Arthur may bring in Grant Bradburn as the head coach, Andrew Puttick as a batting coach, and Morne Morkel as a bowling coach into the coaching personnel.
Currently, Morkel is occupied with his duties as a bowling coach for Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Therefore, due to Morkel’s unavailability, Gul will be hired on a temporary basis for the aforementioned series. Bradburn is expected to lead the coaching staff during the series.
A formal announcement regarding the coaching staff is pending approval from PCB management committee Chairman, Najam Sethi. Gul, who has claimed 85 T20I wickets in 60 matches and earned a reputation as a fine death bowler, has also previously worked as Afghanistan’s bowling coach during last year’s T20 World Cup.
