New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is gearing up for an exhilarating white-ball series against Pakistan, set to take place early next year on New Zealand soil. According to sources, the series could feature either five thrilling T20Is or three action-packed ODIs.
NZC has extended the offer to host this enticing series immediately after the conclusion of Pakistan’s tour of Australia in January 2024. The highly anticipated three-match Test series between the two nations will culminate on January 7, paving the way for the white-ball showdown.
With New Zealand enjoying a free window before their home series against South Africa in February, the series against Pakistan may kick off in the second week of January. This strategic scheduling ensures a thrilling start to the year for cricket enthusiasts.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently engaged in discussions with stakeholders regarding this proposal, with the final decision on the tour expected in the coming days. This exciting development presents a significant opportunity for both teams to showcase their skills and engage in fierce competition.
In a recent interview with BBC Urdu, Najam Sethi, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, revealed the esteemed members of the newly formed selection panel for Pakistan’s national men’s side. Sethi announced that the committee would comprise Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed, Team Director Mickey Arthur, Head Coach Grant Bradburn, and Data Analyst Hassan Cheema.
Sethi highlighted the committee’s focus on incorporating data-driven strategies into the selection process, expressing confidence in Hassan Cheema’s expertise in this field. Currently serving as the strategy manager for Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United, Cheema brings valuable insights to the table.
Haroon Rasheed, a former cricketer who represented Pakistan in 23 Tests and 12 ODIs between 1977 and 1983, previously held the position of chief selector during the 2015-16 season. Meanwhile, Mickey Arthur, an integral part of the coaching staff for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and other crucial series, has contributed significantly to Pakistan’s success, guiding them to the number one ranking in Tests and T20Is and securing the coveted ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
In a recent announcement, the PCB confirmed the appointment of Grant Bradburn as the head coach of the national men’s side for a two-year term. Bradburn had previously served as the head coach, on a consultancy basis, during Pakistan’s recent home series against New Zealand.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming series between New Zealand and Pakistan, fans can expect a fierce contest filled with enthralling performances and unforgettable moments on the cricket field.
