Nicholas Pooran’s sensational 55-ball 137* helped MI New York to a seven-wicket win over Seattle Orcas in the inaugural MLC final at Citi Field on Sunday.
Pooran’s knock was the fastest century in MLC history, coming off just 40 balls. He smashed 13 sixes and 10 fours in his innings.
MI New York’s other batsmen also made significant contributions, with Dewald Brevis scoring 20 off 18 balls and Tim David hitting 10 off 9 balls.
Batting first, Seattle Orcas got off to a good start, soon after it was seen as a one-man show Quinton de Kock scored 87 off 52 balls. Apart from him, no other batter produced an impressive run. They could only manage to reach 183 in their 20 overs, thanks to late strikes by Dwaine Pretorius. Trend Boult and Rashid Khan took three wickets each.
The win gave MI New York their first MLC title, and Pooran was named player of the final. While Cameron Green received the Player of the Tournament award and Trent Boult received the Bowler of the Tournament award.
