Rashid Khan has withdrawn from the Hundred, citing an unspecified injury. The Afghan leg-spinner was due to play for the Trent Rockets in this edition of the 100-ball competition.
Khan’s withdrawal is a blow to the Hundred, as he is one of the world’s best bowlers. He is also a popular figure in England, having played county cricket for Sussex in recent years.
The Hundred’s managing director, Sanjay Patel, said that Khan’s withdrawal was “a shame” but that the tournament still has a “strong squad”.
“We’re obviously disappointed that Rashid won’t be able to join us,” Patel said. “He’s a world-class bowler and a great character, and he would have been a huge asset to the Trent Rockets.
“However, we have a strong squad and we’re confident that we’ll still be able to put on a great show for the fans.”
Khan’s withdrawal is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Hundred. The tournament has also been hit by the withdrawal of England’s Jofra Archer and Australia’s Steve Smith.
Despite these setbacks, the Hundred is still expected to be a major success. The tournament has already sold over 500,000 tickets, and it is set to be broadcast in over 100 countries.
