West Indies’ journey in the Over 40s Cricket Global Cup has been a mix of highs and lows, despite kicking off the tournament with two impressive wins against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia. Currently, they hold the fifth spot on the points table.
In their latest encounter, West Indies faced a formidable Pakistan team, who secured their fourth consecutive victory in the competition. Bowling first, Pakistan’s Green Shirts put up a remarkable display, limiting the Caribbean side to a modest total of 201 runs in 45 overs. The bowling attack, led by Abdul Qadir with three crucial wickets, made the task even more challenging for West Indies. Narsingh Devnarine and Derry Balgobin made notable contributions, scoring 49 and 45 runs, respectively.
Despite the challenge, West Indies’ bowlers showed resilience, but Pakistan managed to successfully chase the target of 202 in the 41st over, securing a six-wicket win.
West Indies’ journey in the Over 40s Cricket Global Cup has seen them showcase their potential with wins against UAE and Australia. However, they faced a setback against the United States of America (USA), highlighting the competitiveness of the tournament.
In their third-round fixture against the USA, West Indies appeared on track for a third consecutive win when they reached 152-2 in the 27th over, thanks to the partnership between Lawrence Farnum (69 off 90 balls) and Devon Clement (44 off 70 balls). However, they lost their last eight wickets for just 59 runs, ultimately being bowled out for 211 in 44.1 overs. The USA’s spin quartet led the fightback, engineering a come-from-behind win.
While West Indies may have faced a few bumps along the way, they remain a strong contender in the Over 40s Cricket Global Cup, determined to bounce back and make their presence felt in the tournament.
