Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced its inaugural Lanka T10 tournament, set to take place from December 12 to 23 in Colombo. The event will see a player auction held on November 10, with plans for a concurrent women’s T10 league.
The men’s competition will consist of six franchises, each named after iconic Sri Lankan cities, and all matches will be centralized in Colombo. Player registrations are currently open until November 5.
SLC President Shammi Silva expressed his enthusiasm for this latest addition to the cricketing landscape.
“Cricket has been continuing to evolve, and T10 is the latest format to enter the fray, quickly gaining popularity within the game,” he stated. “We are excited to embark on this new venture and are optimistic that Lanka T10’s debut will be a resounding success.”
Lanka T10 will be managed by SLC in collaboration with the T Ten Sports Management group, known for organizing the Abu Dhabi T10 and the Zim-Afro T10 events, as well as the US Master T10 event. Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman of T Ten Sports, affirmed the credibility and entertainment value of the T10 format, which they have fostered over the years through their various tournaments.
This development establishes Sri Lanka as the second ICC Full Member country to endorse a T10 league, following the footsteps of the Zimbabwe Cricket-backed Zim-Afro competition that took place in July.
In addition to Lanka T10, Sri Lanka also hosts the Lanka Premier League, a six-team T20 competition that last graced the cricketing world in August 2023. The introduction of the Lanka T10 league reflects the ever-evolving and dynamic nature of cricket, offering fans and players a thrilling, fast-paced format to enjoy.
