Peshawar Zalmi have established themselves as a consistent force in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), securing a spot in the playoffs every year since the league’s inception. Reflecting on their journey, the team’s performance has been a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, yet their resilience remains unmatched.
In the inaugural season of PSL, Zalmi made a strong statement by finishing first on the points table. They clinched the top spot in the qualifying final but suffered a setback, losing to Quetta Gladiators. Undeterred, they battled through the third qualifying final, only to face defeat against Islamabad United.
However, their determination bore fruit in the second season as they once again dominated the league, topping the table and eventually clinching the championship. The following seasons witnessed a similar pattern of impressive performances but heartbreak in the finals.
In 2018, despite finishing third on the table, the yellow storm fought their way through the playoffs, only to fall short in the final against United. This trend continued in subsequent years, with Zalmi consistently topping the table but facing hurdles in the final showdowns.
The 2020 season saw them finishing fourth and losing in the eliminator, ending their hopes of lifting the trophy. However, they bounced back in 2021, securing a place in the final after winning the eliminator and qualifier 2, only to be defeated by Multan Sultans.
In the subsequent seasons, Zalmi continued to showcase their tenacity but fell short of ultimate glory. Despite finishing third on the table in 2022 and fourth in 2023, they couldn’t overcome the hurdles in the playoffs.
In the ongoing PSL 2024, Zalmi has once again proved their mettle, becoming the second team to qualify for the playoffs after securing the second spot on the table with 11 points. Their victory over Gladiators on Friday solidified their position, setting the stage for another exhilarating playoff campaign. With a legacy of consistency and resilience, Zalmi remains a formidable contender in the quest for PSL supremacy.
