The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is set to commence from March 22nd, promising another season filled with excitement and fierce competition. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the schedule for the initial 17 days of the tournament, with plans to announce the remaining fixtures later, contingent upon India’s general elections polling dates.
However, amidst the buzz surrounding the upcoming season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face a setback as their pacer, Matheesh Pathirana, is doubtful for the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Pathirana’s injury, sustained during the ongoing Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh T20I series, has cast doubt on his availability for at least CSK’s opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The injury woes for CSK don’t end there, as opener Devon Conway has already been ruled out of the opener due to a thumb injury. Pathirana’s discomfort during the second T20I forced him to be taken off the field, and subsequent assessments ruled him out of the third T20I as well.
With CSK set to defend their title at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the 17th edition of the IPL, the uncertainty surrounding Pathirana’s availability poses a concern for the team’s preparations. As the series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh remains tied, CSK will be closely monitoring Pathirana’s recovery ahead of the IPL opener, hoping for a swift return to fitness for their key pacer.
