Delhi Capitals’ campaign in the IPL 2024 has been dealt a blow as all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. Marsh, who played the first four games for the Capitals, sustained the injury during the tournament and has since left the country for his homeland to undergo rehabilitation. Cricket Australia is overseeing his recovery process to ensure he is fully fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which begins on June 1 in the USA and West Indies.
Head coach Ricky Ponting had expressed doubts about Marsh’s return to the IPL after the injury, and it’s now confirmed that he won’t be making a comeback. Ponting stated,
“I don’t think he’ll be coming back. There’s a certain cut off point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could.”
Cricket Australia has been managing Marsh’s rehab for the past couple of weeks, and although it’s taken longer than expected, they remain optimistic about his availability for the T20 World Cup. Despite Marsh’s absence, Delhi Capitals have managed to win three out of eight games and currently sit eighth on the table with six points.
The loss of Marsh is significant for the Capitals, as his all-round abilities were valuable for the team. However, they will now have to rely on other players to fill the void for the remainder of the tournament. With the T20 World Cup looming, both Marsh and Cricket Australia will be eager to ensure his fitness and availability for the crucial tournament.
