The Northern Superchargers Women thrashed the Oval Invincibles Women by 82 runs at The Oval in a dominating display in the 12th match of The Hundred Women’s Competition. Winning the toss and electing to field first, the Invincibles were left on the horns of a dilemma as the Superchargers stormed up to a strong total of 146/4 in their 100 balls. The real star of the show was Annabel Sutherland, whose brilliant unbeaten 63 off 40, adorned with 5 fours and 3 sixes, propelled the team to a challenging total.

The Superchargers’ innings started off rather sedately, with the loss of two early wickets. Davina Perrin fell for 8, and captain Hollie Armitage soon followed for 2. But Phoebe Litchfield provided stability to the innings with a solid 44 off 30 balls, laying the platform for Sutherland’s fireworks. Despite losing wickets at critical phases of the game, the Superchargers continued to keep up a brisk run rate with Bess Heath contributing a brisk 15 off 11 balls before falling to Sophia Smale.

The Invincibles chase began disastrously, with Linsey Smith and Kate Cross reducing them to 11/3 by the first 13 balls. Smith’s disciplined bowling earned her figures of 2/10, while Cross was equally effective with 2/15. In the middle order, not much challenge was given to this onslaught with the exception of Amanda-Jade Wellington, top-scoring with 26 off 21 balls. All her efforts went in vain as the Invincibles folded up for 64 all out in just 66 balls.

Annabel Sutherland then ripped through the lower order, returning figures of 4/11 from 16 balls, including three wickets in quick succession. The Invincibles never really recovered from those early blows, and Sutherland’s relentless accuracy made sure there was to be no lower-order revival. Wareham and Ballinger chipped in to sustain the pressure and tighten a stranglehold on the Invincibles’ innings.
