West Indies fast bowling legend Curtly Ambrose has talked about his urge to bowl against some of the best batters of this modern era, with India’s enigmatic star Virat Kohli topping the list. Considered as one of the best fast bowlers in history, Ambrose picked up 630 international wickets, out of which 405 came in Test cricket at an incredible average of 20.99. Years post-retirement, the fire still burns, and recently, he spoke about how much he wanted to take on the crème de la crème from today’s time.

He mentioned that he would love to bowl to Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Joe Root, touted as the best batsmen in their respective countries. “Virat, Smith, Root,” he said, underlining the elite status these players have achieved. Kohli, in particular, is the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cups and holds the record for most centuries in ODIs.

Curtly Ambrose feels bowlers don’t get credit

Ambrose also reflected on the fact that bowlers don’t get much credit, despite their huge roles in the development of any cricket game. He feels bowlers deserve more appreciation from fans whenever fans discuss their favourite players. He named Wasim Akram as one of his all-time favourite bowlers and hailed the legendary Pakistani bowler, who bagged 962 international wickets, including 502 in ODIs and 414 in Tests.

But as a former fast bowler, I will lean towards the bowlers. Wasim Akram is one of my favourite fast bowlers,”

Curtly Ambrose’s Test career befitted his dominance: the best of 8/45 in an inning and 11/84 in a match. His ability to bowl with precision and pace made him one of the most feared bowlers of his generation, while his excitement at bowling to today’s greats such as Virat Kohli indicated how much he still loves the game.
