The Trinbago Knight Riders have added former England all-rounder Chris Jordan to their roster for the home leg of CPL 2024. They are set to begin their campaign on September 18 and replace USA fast bowler Ali Khan who got injured. Back in 2019, Jordan picked seven wickets at an economy rate of 9.05 when the campaign for TKR ended in the knockout stage.

Jordan arrives fresh off a historic performance, having become the first England men’s player to take a T20I hat-trick in June 2024, with a homecoming in Barbados. As the TKR team heads into their next challenge, he adds much-needed firepower to the side.

Guyana’s captain Imran Tahir out for ten days, Shai Hope at the helm

As for Guyana Amazon Warriors, they are not so fortunate. Their captain, Imran Tahir, is out with an injury for ten days. Shai Hope steps in as the stand-in captain and accepts that Tahir’s unavailability does create a gap in middle overs where the 45-year-old former spinner was a wicket-taker. Hope agreed that the team was looking for a way to get in during those all-important overs without their “trump card”.

Nathan Sowter replaces Tahir

Not doing much to help the Warriors is their injury problems, which have lost the services of all-rounder Romario Shepherd since mid-season through a toe injury. In addition to Tahir’s loss, the Warriors have strengthened with Australia-born English wrist-spinner Nathan Sowter, who has franchise cricket experience.

“We’ve got to find ways to penetrate in the middle,” Hope said after the game. “I think we need to find ways to get wickets. Obviously, Imran Tahir is a big loss for us – he was one of our trump cards in the middle overs – but can’t look at that. We have got to work with what we have and find ways to get wickets. We understand the opposition [TKR] that we’re playing next and it’s important that we finish well in the death overs and take care of the batting after.”

The Warriors’ next game is against TKR, whom Shai Hope said they would finish well in the death overs, regardless of the bowling setbacks that TKR might have faced. Their bowling attack and batting performance are under scrutiny and improvement in either department will keep them competitive throughout the tournament.
