The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2024) is currently underway with all teams gearing up to lift the coveted trophy. Star wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy said that after the narrow semi-final loss for Australia against South Africa, it was a tough call on whether to give it a go or not regarding her fitness. She said that she had considered taking the chance to play but ended up sitting out. However, the star batter is now back in form, and will hopefully feature in Sydney Sixers’ upcoming matches in WBBL.

She said she has been living with a severe rupture to her plantar fascia, which limits both her pain tolerance and physical capability. “I ruptured my plantar fascia — fully in one foot and partially in the other,” she was quoted as saying. Healy finally felt she might only manage one more game if she pushed through, realizing that risk could outweigh potential benefits.

Alyssa Healy set for WBBL, but might not be fully available to cater to a busy schedule ahead

Back in Australia, Healy reflected on what was going to be a hectic season ahead, with the Women’s Big Bash League, an ODI series against India and New Zealand, and the Women’s Ashes in January. Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, she spoke to the challenge of wanting to play every game but, at the same time, not wanting to overstretch herself physically. “A lot of cricket this summer”, she said, being well aware that she may have to miss games or take time out. ”I want to play every game but there’s a chance that might not happen”.

It was not an ideal start to the WBBL for Alyssa Healy and co, the Sydney Sixers. Although they started with a bang by defeating Melbourne Renegades, where 15-year-old Caoimhe Bray scored the winning runs after Ellyse Perry’s blistering 81, they recently lost to the defending champions Adelaide Strikers.

Scotland’s Sarah Bryce has also been outstanding for the Sixers as she scored an unbeaten 36 against the Renegades and a 62-run performance against the Strikers. But still, the Sixers will have to do without the all-rounder Amelia Kerr since she can no longer participate due to an injury during the India tour.
