New Zealand Triumph Over South Africa to Set Up Final Clash with India

In a high-octane encounter at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, New Zealand outclassed South Africa by 50 runs in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, booking their place in the final against India. The Kiwis, powered by a stellar batting performance and disciplined bowling, proved too strong for the Proteas, who fought valiantly but fell short in their chase of a mammoth 363-run target.

New Zealand’s innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression. Openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra laid a solid foundation with a 48-run partnership before Young fell for 21. Ravindra, the star of the day, then took center stage, crafting a magnificent 108 off 101 balls, including 13 boundaries and a six. Skipper Kane Williamson complemented him perfectly with a sublime 102 off 94 deliveries, his innings laced with 10 fours and two sixes.

The middle order, led by Daryl Mitchell (49) and Glenn Phillips (49*), provided the late flourish, propelling New Zealand to a daunting 362/6 in their 50 overs. South Africa’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Lungi Ngidi (3/72) and Kagiso Rabada (2/70) being the pick of the attack.

In response, South Africa started shakily, losing Ryan Rickelton early. Temba Bavuma (56) and Rassie van der Dussen (69) steadied the ship with a 105-run partnership, but the required run rate kept climbing. Aiden Markram (31) and David Miller (100*) tried to keep the Proteas in the hunt, but wickets at regular intervals derailed their chase.

Miller’s heroic century, which included 10 fours and four sixes, was the lone bright spot in an otherwise faltering innings. Mitchell Santner (3/43) and Glenn Phillips (2/27) were the chief destroyers for New Zealand, ensuring South Africa finished at 312/9.

Rachin Ravindra, with his century and two crucial catches, was deservedly named Player of the Match. His all-round performance epitomized New Zealand’s dominance on the day.

With this victory, New Zealand set up a tantalizing final against India, promising a clash of titans. Both teams have been in scintillating form, and the stage is set for a thrilling showdown.
