In a high-scoring thriller at the National Stadium in Karachi, the Karachi Kings scripted one of the most memorable victories in Pakistan Super League history by chasing down a daunting target of 235 runs. The six-wicket win over Multan Sultans, achieved with four balls to spare, now ranks as the third-highest successful run-chase in PSL history.
Kings chase 234 comfortably to register third-highest chase in PSL
The night belonged to English batter James Vince, whose blistering 101 off just 43 balls set the platform for the historic chase. His innings, which included 14 fours and 4 sixes, was the cornerstone of Karachi’s chase and earned him the Player of the Match award as well as the highest impact score of the game.
Earlier, Kings had won the toss and elected to field but Sultans made full use of a flat pitch. Their innings was anchored by captain Mohammad Rizwan, who remained unbeaten on 105 off 63 deliveries. Rizwan’s knock was a blend of composure and power, punctuated by 9 fours and 5 sixes. He was well supported by Kamran Ghulam (36 off 19) and Michael Bracewell (44 not out off 17), who accelerated the innings in the final overs. Multan posted a formidable 234 for 3 in their 20 overs.
Karachi’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with none of them able to make a significant impact apart from Akif Javed, who picked up three wickets for 41 runs. The rest of the bowling unit came under severe pressure, conceding 20 extras and failing to deliver at the death.
Karachi’s reply began with a jolt as captain David Warner and Shan Masood fell cheaply, and Tim Seifert was dismissed after a quickfire 32. At 52 for 3, the chase looked improbable. That is when James Vince took control, counter-attacking with elegant strokeplay and relentless aggression.
Vince found an able partner in Khushdil Shah, who played a composed yet explosive knock of 60 off 37 balls. The pair added 142 runs for the fifth wicket, turning the game decisively in Karachi’s favour. Vince brought up his century in just 42 balls before being run out in the 18th over. His departure did not derail the Kings, as Irfan Khan and Abbas Afridi kept their nerve to finish the job with four deliveries remaining.
The match was a run-fest, producing a total of 470 runs in under 40 overs, and will be remembered as one of the most entertaining contests in PSL history. While Multan Sultans posted a massive total, their bowling lacked penetration and discipline in key phases. Karachi Kings, on the other hand, showcased resilience, power-hitting, and composure under pressure.
With this result, the Karachi Kings have made a strong early statement in PSL 2025, announcing themselves as serious contenders for the title.
