Suva – September 15, 2025: Papua New Guinea Women sealed the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia Pacific Qualifier title with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Vanuatu Women in Suva. A composed half-century from Naoani Vare and a disciplined bowling display powered PNG to the trophy.

Vanuatu Struggle After Bright Start

Opting to bat first, Vanuatu looked promising when skipper Rachel Andrew blazed 45 off just 26 balls, striking seven fours and one six. However, her dismissal at 55/1 triggered a slide.

Despite Susan Stephen’s steady 23 off 20, the middle order faltered against PNG’s accurate spin and seam. Isabel Toua (3/18) and Geua Tom (3/15) ran through the lineup, with support from Henao Thomas (2/15), as Vanuatu were restricted to 113/9 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 114, PNG lost Konio Oala (7) early, but there was little else for Vanuatu to celebrate. Naoani Vare led from the front, crafting a measured yet authoritative 57 not out off 47 balls, decorated with nine boundaries.

She was well-supported by captain and wicketkeeper Brenda Tau (39 not out off 39), the pair adding an unbroken 89-run stand that ended all doubts about the result. PNG crossed the target in just 15.1 overs, winning with 29 balls to spare and securing an emphatic statement victory in the regional final.
