WCPL teams 2026

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) is set for its biggest season yet, with the tournament expanding from three to four teams in 2026. The addition of the Jamaica Empress marks a significant milestone for women’s cricket in the Caribbean, bringing new opportunities for players and fans alike.

The local player squads have now been finalized following the completion of the 2026 WCPL Player Draft. To accommodate the league’s expansion, organizers introduced a revised draft system that included the allocation of one Heritage Player to each franchise from its home territory.

Barbados Tridents retained star all-rounder Hayley Matthews as their Heritage Player, while Jamaica Empress secured Chinelle Henry. Guyana Amazon Warriors kept experienced wicketkeeper-batter Shemaine Campbelle, and Trinbago Knight Riders retained spinner Karishma Ramharack.

Following the Heritage Player selections, the three existing franchises were allowed to protect two additional players from their 2025 squads. The newly formed Jamaica Empress then selected two players from the available draft pool to strengthen their roster.

Among the notable retained players are Deandra Dottin for Trinbago Knight Riders, Stafanie Taylor for Jamaica Empress, Afy Fletcher for Barbados Tridents, and Ashmini Munisar for Guyana Amazon Warriors. These experienced cricketers are expected to play key roles in their teams’ campaigns.

The 2026 season will also introduce a major change to squad composition. Each franchise will sign five overseas players, creating 15-player squads. Unlike previous editions, all five overseas players will be eligible for selection in the playing XI, offering teams greater flexibility and strategic options throughout the tournament.

Beyond the on-field developments, WCPL has unveiled a refreshed identity centered on three core values: empowerment, the will to win, and close community. These themes are reflected in the league’s new campaign, “She’s In,” which aims to celebrate women’s cricket and increase fan engagement across the Caribbean.

With expanded participation, stronger squads, and a renewed focus on promoting the women’s game, WCPL 2026 is shaping up to be the most exciting edition of the tournament to date.
