The third edition of SA20 will also enthrall cricket lovers across the globe from January 9 to February 8, 2024. Much-awaited is its player auction to be held in Cape Town on October 1, where only 13 slots are available across the six teams. The auction to complete SA20 2025 squads is expected to be quite interesting once the pre-signings and retentions are already done, and some of the biggest names in international cricket are likely to turn up in it.
League Commissioner Graeme Smith was happy about the progress of the league and commended the effort of the franchises in lassoing top talent. The new season is set to feature a plethora of cricketing heavyweights such as Joe Root, Dinesh Karthik, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, and Devon Conway. These stars from all over the world join local stalwarts Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Heinrich Klaasen to get people on their toes for a full-cylinders cricketing event.
With teams finalising their rosters, each franchise currently has between 14 to 17 players. The South African quota stipulates that each team must have at least ten local players, while the overseas player limit sits at seven per squad.
This season would really be full of surprises as three franchises are yet to announce their wildcard selections by December 30. Notably, the schedule of the matches is yet to be released.
Smith confidently said he positions SA20 as one of the Tier 1 franchise leagues on the global circuit and is looking to deliver a world-class experience combined with strong mixes of international and local talents. In this regard, high-profile players eyeing the prestigious tournament make the continued growth and success of the SA20 league clear.
