The Indian Premier League (IPL) is arguably the most entertaining cricketing league in the world, as it combines two of the most glamorous industries of India – cricket and Bollywood. The league is widely popular across the globe for its high-octane matches, international players, and colorful franchise owners. The IPL has managed to garner a massive following since its inception in 2008.
One of the most loved celebrity team owners in the IPL is Preity Zinta, the co-owner of the Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab). Zinta is often seen having a blast with her team during their downtime, and she recently revealed a hilarious incident from the 2009 edition of IPL. Zinta had promised to make 120 aloo parathas for her team if they won the next match, and they did. So, she fulfilled her promise and made 120 aloo parathas for the team.
Zinta recounted the incident, stating, “First time I realized, how much do the boys eat. We were in South Africa, and they served not a good all parantha. Then I told them, ‘I will teach you to make all paratha’. Seeing that, the boys asked if I can make all parathas for them. I told them that I will make aloo parathas if they win the next match. They won it. Then I made 120 aloo parathas. After that, I have stopped making aloo parathas.”
The Punjab Kings have been a popular team in the IPL, but they have never won the coveted IPL title. Their best finish came in the 2014 edition, where they finished as runners-up to Kolkata Knight Riders. In the ongoing IPL 2023 season, Punjab Kings are placed sixth in the points table, with four wins in eight matches. However, in their most recent fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants, the team suffered a heavy defeat, conceding the second-highest total in IPL history and losing by 56 runs.
The IPL is a thrilling tournament that has managed to captivate audiences worldwide with its brand of cricket and entertainment. Preity Zinta’s hilarious aloo paratha incident is just one example of the fun and excitement that surrounds the league. While the Punjab Kings have not won an IPL title yet, they remain a popular team, and their fans are hoping that they can break their title drought soon.
