Why Adam Zampa is Ruled Out of IPL 2025? Real Reason Revealed

Sunrisers Hyderabad have confirmed that Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa will play no further part in the current Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) due to a flare-up of a shoulder injury that has resurfaced after troubling him in the past.

Zampa, who was used as an Impact Substitute in SRH’s opening two games, managed to pick up a wicket in each, despite the matches being high-scoring affairs. One of those games witnessed a record 528-run aggregate between SRH and Rajasthan Royals. However, discomfort in his bowling shoulder saw him sit out the following fixtures before he returned home to Australia for medical assessment.

The injury is reportedly linked to the same shoulder issue Zampa managed during the buildup to the 2023 ODI World Cup—a tournament where he overcame fitness hurdles to play a vital role in securing Australia’s title win. He finished as the second-highest wicket-taker, underlining his importance to Australia’s white-ball setup.

While there were initial hopes he could return to IPL action after a short rehabilitation period, SRH decided not to risk it. Instead, the franchise has brought in 21-year-old Karnataka batter R. Smaran as Zampa’s replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

Zampa’s absence is a blow for SRH’s bowling arsenal, which leaned on his experience and control in crunch situations. But the move signals a shift toward future planning, giving the emerging Indian talent an opportunity to step into the limelight on the biggest T20 stage.

Looking ahead, Zampa’s next likely appearance in international cricket will be during Australia’s T20I tour of the West Indies in late July. With 19 T20 Internationals lined up before the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, Cricket Australia is expected to take a cautious approach with the leg-spinner’s recovery to ensure he’s fully fit for the global event.
