Alice Capsey will join England Women’s T20I squad for their tour of South Africa after receiving a late call-up to cover for injuries. Initially omitted from the touring team due to a dip in batting form, Capsey has left her WBBL team, Melbourne Renegades, to reunite with her England teammates.

England cited “minor injury concerns” within the squad as the reason for her recall but did not specify the players affected. The team held a light training session on Monday, with officials downplaying the issues as “niggles, nothing major.” Capsey’s inclusion highlights her value as an all-rounder despite recent struggles.

Her form has been inconsistent of late. In the T20 World Cup last month, she managed a top score of just 19 across three innings, and England fell short of the knockout stages. However, her bowling performances in the WBBL have been impressive. She is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, with 13 wickets at an average of 13.23 and an economy rate of 7.21. Her standout performance came against Perth Scorchers, where she claimed 5 for 25, though her team ultimately lost.

Capsey’s return comes as England prepare to face South Africa in a three-match T20I series starting November 24 in East London. The series will be followed by three ODIs and a Test match in Bloemfontein.

Capsey’s initial exclusion saw Paige Scholfield and Lauren Filer added to the squad, both of whom missed the T20 World Cup. Scholfield debuted during the Ireland tour in September, while Filer brings pace to England’s bowling attack.

With Capsey back in the mix, England will hope her contributions, especially with the ball, can bolster their campaign in South Africa. The team aims to bounce back from their World Cup disappointment and build momentum ahead of a packed international schedule.
