In a recent IPL clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals’ pacer Anrich Nortje faced a challenging outing, conceding 32 runs in a single over, joining an unwanted list of bowlers who have suffered similar fates in IPL history.
Despite his struggle, Nortje managed to end his spell with figures of 65/2 in four overs, contributing to his team’s efforts amidst Mumbai Indians’ batting onslaught. Nortje’s expensive over ranks him sixth among bowlers who have conceded the most runs in a single over in IPL history, with Harshal Patel holding the record for the most expensive over, conceding 37 runs against CSK in 2021.
The IPL history boasts several instances of bowlers enduring challenging spells, with the most runs conceded in an over being 37, a record held jointly by Harshal Patel against CSK in 2021 and Prashanth Parmeswaran against RCB in 2011. Daniel Sams’ 35-run over against KKR in 2022 and Parwinder Awana’s and Ravi Bopara’s 33-run overs against CSK in 2014 and KKR in 2010, respectively, also stand out in the annals of IPL bowling records.
Adding to this list is Anrich Nortje’s recent entry, conceding 32 runs in an over against MI in 2024, underscoring the unforgiving nature of T20 cricket and the challenges faced by bowlers under pressure.
Meanwhile, former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma played a pivotal innings, scoring 49 runs off 27 balls against Delhi Capitals. Sharma’s innings helped him surpass 1000 runs against the Capitals in IPL history, making him only the third player in IPL history to achieve this milestone against two teams.
Before this match, Rohit Sharma had scored 977 runs against Delhi Capitals, previously known as Delhi Daredevils, showcasing his consistency and dominance over the opposition.
