In a significant development, Shehrbano Naqvi to be head of Pakistan women’s cricket is among those in the fray as the PCB looks for a new administrator to take charge of women’s cricket in the country. ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, known for her gallantry and commitment to public service, is emerging as a strong contender for the position.

This follows the resignation of Tania Mallick from her position in Pakistan women’s cricket, after serving since October 2021 when she quit to pursue other career opportunities. She has left a great mark on the growth of Pakistan women’s cricket, focusing on grassroots initiatives and international advocacy, which the International Cricket Council (ICC) appreciated by appointing her as a Full Member representative on the ICC Women’s Committee.

Shehrbano Naqvi, who brought herself into national headlines early this year by saving a woman from a mob at Lahore’s Ichra Bazaar, has done such great deeds that she is now a prominent figure within and outside the public service circle. This experience has made her exhibit leadership qualities, and Shehrbano Naqvi is to become the head of Pakistan women’s cricket an issue of great interest among the PCB officials.

Another one under consideration is the former Lahore Deputy Commissioner, who was an active supporter of PCB initiatives during Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure as interim Chief Minister of Punjab.

The Shehrbano Naqvi head of Pakistan women’s cricket consideration reflects the commitment that PCB is putting in enhancing women’s cricket in the country. Former officials, according to PCB COO Salman Naseer, have left an invaluable legacy. According to Naseer, Mallick has done something crucial to making an internationally competitive team. He praised her for pushing forward the development of more players at the grassroots level.

“Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick were key members of the PCB management team, making meaningful contributions to our progress as an organisation. Sohaib was part of the core team that launched the HBL PSL in 2016, successfully delivering four seasons, and he returned to produce another high-quality event earlier this year,” said PCB COO Salman Naseer in a statement.

“Tania worked with dedication to uplift women’s cricket in Pakistan, making strides at the grassroots level to expand the pool of players. Alongside PCB’s ongoing support, her efforts were recognised internationally by the ICC, where she served as one of the two Full Member representatives on the ICC Women’s Committee.

“The PCB appreciates their hard work, dedication and contributions, and we wish both Sohaib and Tania every success in their future endeavours.”
