The marquee Test series against India may see Australia rest their all-format stars for the T20I series against Pakistan this November. ESPNCricinfo reported that Australia are considering resting key players to ensure optimal readiness for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil.
Australia will be playing host to Pakistan for six white-ball games, including three ODIs and three T20Is, from November 4 to November 18. Starting with a three-match ODI series on November 4, the tour will go on to see T20Is played from November 14 to November 18.
With the T20I series starting less than a week before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on November 22, there are concerns. Various multi-format players, like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Josh Hazlewood, could be omitted from the T20I squad so that they get enough time to focus on Test preparations. The Australian team management wants to give the best preparation facilities for the five-Test series against India to these players.
Preparation for that comes with the Sheffield Shield season starting on October 8, and even if some players are rested initially, they will have three First-Class matches to get ready.
Also, the schedule of the ODI series has matches at MCG, Melbourne on November 4, Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on November 8, and Perth Stadium, Perth on November 10. The T20I series will be played at The Gabba, Brisbane on November 14, SCG, Sydney on November 16, and Bellerive Oval, Hobart on November 18.
