Babar Azam reacts to Aakash Chopra’s fab four statements

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has reacted to former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra’s assessment that he is not yet part of Test cricket’s renowned “Fab Four” group, which includes Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, and Joe Root.

Chopra recently expressed his view that the term “Fab Four” is no longer applicable, given Virat Kohli’s recent dip in form. While acknowledging Azam’s potential to join the elite group, Chopra suggested that he hasn’t quite attained that status yet.

In response, Azam addressed the issue during a press conference ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. He emphasized his focus on delivering consistent performances and allowing his name to establish itself through on-field excellence.

“Everyone has their own point of view and opinion. My job is to perform. All the records I have broken thus far were due to my performances. My focus is to keep giving performances, so the name will keep coming everywhere by itself,” Babar confidently stated.

Azam, the recipient of the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2022, boasts an impressive track record. He has amassed 3,696 runs in 47 Tests, featuring nine centuries and 26 half-centuries. Notably, he is the only cricketer to rank within the top three across all three formats, standing third in Tests, first in ODIs, and second in T20Is.
