Babar can be part of fab four, but not now, says Aakash Chopra

Renowned Indian cricketer turned commentator, Aakash Chopra, has stated that the concept of the “Fab Four” in Test cricket no longer holds true, as Virat Kohli is no longer considered part of the elite group. However, Chopra believes that Babar Azam, the Pakistan captain, has been performing exceptionally well and has the potential to be included in this exclusive category, although he hasn’t reached that status just yet.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed, “There is no Fab Four now in Test Cricket. Virat Kohli is out of it. Babar Azam has scored runs and he can be part of it but not yet. For now, it is Fab three with Kane [Williamson], [Joe] Root, and [Steve] Smith.”

Interestingly, the concept of the “Fab Four” refers to a group of exceptional batsmen in Test cricket, consisting of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, and Joe Root. However, Chopra’s viewpoint suggests that with Kohli’s recent form, he no longer holds a place in this group, while Babar Azam’s consistent performances have caught his attention, potentially making him a contender for inclusion in the future.

Chopra’s analysis echoes the sentiments expressed by former Blackcaps player, Simon Doull, during the third Test match between England and New Zealand last year. Doull highly praised Babar Azam and acknowledged his exceptional skills in the top order, while discussing the renowned “Fab Four.”

Doull confidently asserted, “Not many could argue that Babar Azam is the best player in the world at the moment. As far as batting in that top order is concerned, he is unbelievable. Joe Root’s got an argument for that too. They talk about the big four, at the moment, he’s the big one.”

Doull’s statement highlights Babar Azam’s undeniable talent and acknowledges his potential to be considered among the best in the world. While the “Fab Four” may no longer be a fitting term, Babar Azam’s consistent performances have undoubtedly garnered attention and positioned him as a prominent player in the cricketing world.
