Bangladesh’s T20I setup is undergoing a noticeable shift as the national selectors have named a revamped 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, with several notable exclusions and some long-awaited returns.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led the side in the shorter format not long ago, finds himself left out entirely. The exclusion, though unsurprising to many, reflects the ongoing concerns over his T20I form, a struggle that had already pushed him to relinquish captaincy duties earlier this year to focus on his batting.
Shanto, Soumya Among Those Omitted
Shanto isn’t the only familiar face missing. Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, Nahid Rana, and Khaled Ahmed, all part of the last T20I squad that faced Pakistan, have also been dropped as Bangladesh looks to refresh its combination ahead of the home series.
The changes signal a clear message from the selectors: performance and form will outweigh reputation. With a packed calendar and the next T20 World Cup cycle underway, the Sri Lanka series serves as a testing ground for a more agile, balanced unit.
Saifuddin, Taskin Headline Comebacks
All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been recalled to the T20I side after a year-long absence, offering depth in both batting and seam options. He’s joined by experienced pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, as well as Shoriful Islam and spinner Nasum Ahmed — all of whom return after missing out against Pakistan.
The squad, now led by Litton Das, blends experience with youth. Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Jaker Ali Anik keep their spots, while Towhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Shamim Hossain continue to build their limited-overs credentials.
