The highly anticipated 13th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL 2023-24) is set to kick off on December 7, 2023, and cricket enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting a thrilling season. The first match will witness a clash between the Melbourne Stars and the Brisbane Heat, the runner-ups of the previous season, promising an exciting start to the tournament.
This season brings a new format, with a total of 13 venues hosting the action-packed games. Each of the eight teams will play 10 matches, facing four opponents once and three opponents twice during the league stage. After the culmination of 40 league-stage games, the top four teams will secure a spot in the playoffs.
The playoffs consist of the Qualifier, Knockout, and Challenger rounds. The first and second-ranked teams from the Qualifier, along with the winner, will advance directly to the final. Meanwhile, the third and fourth-ranked teams in the Knockout will battle it out for survival, with the loser eliminated and the winner progressing to the Challenger. The Challenger winner will then secure a spot in the final, facing off against the victorious team from the Qualifier.
The teams participating in the upcoming BBL 2023-24 season have finalized their leadership with seasoned captains and skilled head coaches. The Adelaide Strikers, led by Travis Head, will be guided by the experienced Jason Gillespie. Brisbane Heat, captained by Usman Khawaja, will have Wade Seccombe at the helm as the head coach.
