Romario Shepherd, the West Indies allrounder, is on the move once again in the IPL. He has been traded to the Mumbai Indians from the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2024 season. This trade has come to light amid the ongoing trading window, where player exchanges have been relatively scarce.

The 28-year-old cricketer, who has represented the West Indies in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), initially entered the IPL scene when he was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2022 season. However, his stint with SRH was brief, featuring in only three games before being released. Subsequently, the Lucknow Super Giants acquired his services for a modest INR 50 lakh.

Despite the shift to LSG, Shepherd’s opportunities remained limited, with just a single appearance for the franchise. This prompted the Lucknow-based team to make the decision to trade the West Indian allrounder, opening up new possibilities for his career.

In the larger IPL landscape, teams are in the process of finalizing their player retentions as the auction for the upcoming season looms on the horizon, expected to take place next month. The IPL auction itself is set to make history, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed Dubai as the venue for this significant event, scheduled for December 19. This marks the first time an IPL auction will be conducted overseas, after initial considerations of hosting it in Istanbul, Turkey were discarded.
