BLACKCAPS vs Australia: $20 Tickets, Beige-Out, and 20 Years of T20 Cricket

20 years of T20 cricket

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has unveiled a special celebration for the 20th anniversary of T20 internationals, announcing a $20 ticket flash sale for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy T20I series against Australia at Bay Oval this October.

The promotion, part of a 20-hour Cricket Nation flash sale beginning at 10am on Wednesday, August 20, gives fans the chance to secure seats for what promises to be a retro-themed cricketing spectacle.

Honouring T20’s Origins

Twenty years ago, the first-ever T20 International was played at Eden Park between the BLACKCAPS and Australia. It became an instant cultural moment, remembered for retro beige kits, moustaches, and wigs, as much as for the cricket itself.

This October, Bay Oval will channel that same energy, with NZC encouraging a “beige-out” in partnership with the Beige Brigade supporters group. Fans are being urged to don beige colours, wigs, and throwback gear to honour two decades of the format that has transformed world cricket.

Series Details

The three-match series will take place under lights at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, with games on October 1, 3, and 4. Alongside the on-field action, spectators can expect exclusive 20th anniversary merchandise, giveaways, and themed activations.

NZC’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer, Glenn Critchley, said the series was more than just cricket.

“Playing our oldest rivals for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy is special, but combining that with 20 years of T20 celebrations will make it a carnival atmosphere. Fans can expect a throwback vibe, some fun tributes, and world-class cricket at one of our best venues.”

Beige Brigade Excitement

Paul Ford, co-founder of the Beige Brigade, urged fans to embrace the occasion.

“We’ve always said it’s about passion, not fashion. Twenty years ago, we challenged the BLACKCAPS to bring moustaches and perms to Eden Park – and they delivered. We’d love to see players and fans alike embrace that spirit again.”

Tickets and Availability

The $20 tickets are available from 10am, Wednesday, August 20 until 6am, Thursday, August 21, or until sold out. With strong interest from both Kiwi fans and travelling Australian supporters, demand is expected to be high.
