Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium has burst forth in dazzling new clothes, just in time for international cricketing action as pictures and videos go viral. The historic venue that has seen some of Pakistan’s most memorable sporting moments was unveiled in full pomp and ceremony at a grand inauguration led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday. It is an achievement of swift renovation.
A stunning feat of efficiency saw the completion of the stadium in a mere 117 days. The swift overhauling, under the leadership of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, saw state-of-the-art facilities, modernized infrastructure, and better seating arrangements. The premier appreciated the hard work of the workers, even suggesting that those performing on the renovation should be taken to London for reward.
A Night of Festivities and Celebration
The inauguration ceremony was no less than a show. Thousands of cricket-loving fans queued up at the stadium to witness a breathtaking fireworks display, a comprehensive light show, and great musical performances of Pakistani celebrities Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, and Arif Lohar. The excitement grew in the crowd as the Pakistan cricket team revealed their official jersey for the forthcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, further giving the evening a significance.
