Canterbury Women started their Women’s Super Smash 2022-23 journey with a win

The Women’s Super Smash 2022-23 started on 23 December 2022 and will run till 14 February 2023. The league is a women’s T20 cricket competition organized by New Zealand Cricket.

The first match of the Women’s Super Smash 2022-23 was between Canterbury Women and Northern Districts Women.

In the match, Canterbury Women won the toss and elected to bat first.

Batting first, Canterbury Women made 146/7 in 20 overs with Amy Satterthwaite playing an impressive knock of 73 not-out runs in 52 balls at the strike rate of 140.38. Kate Anderson followed Amy as the top run scorer for the team in the match with 34 runs off 25 balls.

Lucy Boucher and Phoebe Graham from Northern Districts Women took two wickets each and Amanda-Jade Wellington and Nensi Patel took a wicket each in the game for the team. Northern Districts Women conceded eight extras to Canterbury Women in the game.

Batting second to chase the target of 147 runs, Northern Districts Women started their inning with Caitlin Gurrey and Bernadine Bezuidenhout. While an opener, Caitlin, made 66 runs off 48 balls, the other opener, Bernadine, got out at 15 runs off 14 balls. The team added 132 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 9 wickets and lost the match by 14 runs.

Melissa Banks, Gabby Sullivan and Amy Satterthwaite took 3, 2 and 2 wickets respectively for Canterbury Women in the game. Canterbury Women conceded one extra run to Northern Districts Women in the game.
