The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a firm stance against South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, issuing him a legal notice for allegedly breaching his contractual obligations with the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Bosch, who was drafted by Peshawar Zalmi in the diamond category for PSL 2025, withdrew from the league to join Mumbai Indians for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.
The PCB’s legal notice, served through Bosch’s agent, demands an explanation for his withdrawal and warns of potential repercussions. A PCB spokesperson stated, “The player has been asked to justify his actions of withdrawing from his professional and contractual commitments. The PCB management has outlined the repercussions of his departure and expects a response within the stipulated time frame.”
Corbin Bosch prioritizes IPL over PSL, PCB takes legal action for breaching contract
This development comes as the PSL and IPL are set to overlap for the first time in 2025. The IPL will run from March 22 to May 25, while the PSL is scheduled from April 11 to May 18. Bosch’s decision to prioritize the IPL has raised concerns among PSL franchises, who fear it could set a precedent for other players to follow suit.
Bosch was initially picked by Peshawar Zalmi during the PSL draft in January 2025. However, on March 8, Mumbai Indians announced his inclusion as a replacement for the injured Lizaad Williams. This move has sparked debates within the cricketing community, with some PSL stakeholders even discussing the possibility of imposing bans on players who abandon their PSL commitments for the IPL.
The PCB had shifted the PSL window to April-May to attract higher-quality overseas players, avoiding clashes with other leagues like the SA20, ILT20, and BPL. Despite these efforts, the timing of the IPL auction (November 2024) and the PSL draft (January 2025) has created complications, leaving franchises in a precarious position.
The PSL 2025 draft had attracted several high-profile players, including David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, and Kane Williamson. However, Bosch’s withdrawal has cast a shadow over the league’s ability to retain its star players.
