The Guyana Amazon Warriors have made a significant addition to their squad for CPL 2024 by signing Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz. This marks a return for Gurbaz, who previously played for the franchise in 2022, scoring 157 runs in six matches, including two half-centuries. The Warriors have retained Imran Tahir, their captain who led them to their maiden title last season, as well as key players like Pakistan batters Saim Ayub and Azam Khan, and South African allrounder Dwaine Pretorius.
Among the West Indies players retained are Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Keemo Paul, ensuring a strong core of local talent. The Warriors have signed a total of 14 players so far for the 2024 season, needing three more players to complete their squad at the CPL draft in July.
The Warriors will begin their campaign against the new franchise, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, on August 30. The 2024 CPL season, running from August 29 to October 6, will see matches held in several Caribbean venues, including for the first time in ten years, Antigua. Other venues include Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago. The season will culminate in the final at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana.
