Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand due to a back injury sustained during the West Indies series. This sudden setback throws a wrench into Australia’s preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.
Stoinis reportedly tweaked his back during the warm-up session before the second T20I against West Indies, but displayed his dedication by playing through the pain. He scored 16 runs and bagged three wickets in an impressive all-round effort. However, upon returning to Perth, the injury flared up, forcing him to miss the third T20I against West Indies and subsequently the entire New Zealand tour.
In Stoinis’ absence, emerging all-rounder Aaron Hardie has been named as his replacement. Hardie, who has donned the green and gold in seven T20Is, possesses a similar skillset to Stoinis, offering batting power and handy bowling options.
