In a groundbreaking move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket Australia are contemplating the prospects of hosting a T10 league in the near future. Zaka Ashraf, the PCB Management Committee Chairman, is set to engage in discussions regarding this proposal during his upcoming visit to Australia, scheduled to commence on December 22.
The primary objective of this potential collaboration is to explore the joint organization of a T10 league, joining the ranks of other cricketing nations that have embraced this fast-paced format. The ambitious venture aims to bring together the cricketing prowess of Pakistan and Australia, promising an exciting spectacle for fans worldwide.
To foster deeper ties, Cricket Australia has extended an invitation to Zaka Ashraf, allowing him to witness the prestigious Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, starting on December 26. This gesture underscores the commitment of both boards to strengthen their cricketing bonds beyond the proposed T10 league.
The discussions between Ashraf and Cricket Australia officials are not limited to the T10 league alone. Exchange programs and age-group cricket series will also be on the agenda, reflecting a holistic approach to collaboration between the two cricketing powerhouses.
This move follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in October between the PCB and Middlesex County Cricket Club to launch a T10 league. In this joint venture, both parties are slated to be equal equity partners, pending agreement on key aspects such as concepts, business plans, financial projections, and management structure.
T10 leagues have gained immense popularity worldwide since their inception in December 2017, with an annual tournament held in Abu Dhabi. The cricketing landscape has witnessed the emergence of T10 leagues in various countries, including Zimbabwe’s Zim Afro T10 in July and the US Masters T10 League held in the United States in August 2023, featuring former international players.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is also considering joining the T10 league bandwagon, while earlier reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating the launch of its own T10 format league, potentially commencing between October and September next year. BCCI Secretary Jay Shay is reportedly working on a blueprint for this proposed T10 league, further signaling the global embrace of this thrilling cricketing format.
