Cricket Kenya has reached an agreement with Absolute Sports to host the inaugural Kenya T20 Premier League for the next five years. Cricket Kenya informed this via their Twitter handle.
According to Cricket Kenya, Absolute Sports partnered with Cricket Kenya to sponsor the event for the next five years. It was unveiled at a Media launch on October 30, 2022, as per the official Twitter handle of Cricket Kenya. The Media launch was held at Nairobi Gymkhana, Kenya.
The inaugural event is set to bowls off on 6th February 2023. Kenya Twenty20 Premier League will take place at the Nairobi Gymkhana, Kenya. The league will have 33 matches in total and will be played in a round-robin format. That is, the top 4 teams from the very first round will progress to the semi-finals and the winners of semi-final matches will fight for the league title.
The league will be featuring 30 internationals alongside local starts. This will help Cricket Kenya and its players progress very well in the cricketing field.
The total amount Absolute Sports will sponsor is not disclosed publicly till now. However, Cricket Kenya has revealed that the team winning the league title will walk away with Kshs. 1 Million.
The very first edition of the Kenya T20 Premier League will kickstart on February 6, 2022, and Absolute Sports will sponsor the edition along which the sponsor team will also sponsor the following four editions of the league.
The event will help a lot of local stars from Kenya in terms of exposure and Cricket Kenya will have chances to groom the talents from the league to the national team. The local stars who will be part of the Kenya Twenty20 Premier League will also get chances to meet with international talents that can help them skill up even faster.
