The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has revealed the schedule for a three-match T20I series against Pakistan. The matches will take place on March 25, 27, and 29 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, as per the announcement made on Twitter by the ACB.
This comes after the Australian cricket team cancelled their series against Afghanistan, citing the latter’s poor human rights record when it comes to women. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered to play three T20Is instead of ODIs as a way to support the ACB.
Najam Sethi, the current chief of the PCB, made it clear during a press conference that they were not interested in accepting the invitation to play three ODIs. However, he did suggest that three T20Is could be an option, subject to clearance from the Pakistani government.
“I met with ACB officials and we discussed the possibility of three ODIs. My point of view was that ODIs wouldn’t benefit any of the two countries. We came to the conclusion that subject to the government’s approval, Pakistan and Afghanistan will play three T20I matches in Sharjah, just after the conclusion of PSL 8 and before the arrival of New Zealand,” Sethi said.
The revenue generated from the series will be divided equally between the PCB and the ACB.
