In the upcoming Pakistan Super League, the ninth edition of the league (PSL 2024), cricket enthusiasts can anticipate the stellar performances of two renowned cricketers – Quinton de Kock from South Africa and David Warner from Australia.
Both players are set to participate in the tournament and are expected to be in high demand, likely securing places in the platinum categories. Their inclusion in any franchise would undoubtedly fortify the team’s batting order, making them valuable assets for the upcoming season.
Recent statistics from the World Cup 2023 further highlight the prowess of these cricketers. David Warner, the prolific Australian batsman, concluded the tournament as the sixth-highest run-scorer, amassing an impressive total of 535 runs with a notable average of 48.63.
On the other hand, Quinton de Kock, representing South Africa, stood as the third-highest run-scorer, showcasing exceptional form with a total of 594 runs and an impressive average of 59.40. Their stellar performances on the international stage underscore their potential contributions to the PSL 2024.
Looking ahead, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently unveiled the pick order for the PSL 9 draft, scheduled to occur in mid-December immediately after the conclusion of the National T20 Cup. The draft will witness Quetta Gladiators making the first pick, setting the tone for the player selection process. Following suit, Karachi Kings and two-time champions Islamabad United will secure the second and third picks, respectively.
The fourth and fifth picks will be made by Peshawar Zalmi and last season’s runners-up Multan Sultans respectively while champions of the past two editions Lahore Qalandars will finish the first round with the sixth pick.
The selection order for the first round in the Platinum category is intricately determined by the inverse order of the previous season’s standings. This method ensures fairness and competitiveness in the draft process.
Quetta Gladiators, as the first-round opener, will commence the Platinum picks, setting the tone for the draft. Karachi Kings will follow with the first Diamond pick, and Peshawar Zalmi will have the inaugural Gold pick. Subsequently, Multan Sultans, last season’s runners-up, will make the fourth pick, and Lahore Qalandars, winners of the past two editions, will conclude the first round with the sixth pick.
To enhance fairness, each category in the draft is designated to start with a different franchise, ensuring an equitable distribution of talent across teams. Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, and Lahore Qalandars will each take the lead in the Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging, and Supplementary categories, respectively.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the unfolding of PSL 2024, the combination of seasoned international players like Quinton de Kock and David Warner, coupled with the strategic draft process, promises an exciting and competitive season ahead.
