Dr. Nauman And Shoaib Akhtar To Be Taken Off Air After On-Screen Fight

After Pakistan’s win over Newzealand, Shoaib Akhtar and anchor Dr. Nauman Niaz made the headlines. Dr. Nauman was hosting the PTV sports program “Game On Hai” along with the guests such as batting legend Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, and Pakistan women’s captain Sana Mir. The panel was discussing Pakistan’s win over New Zealand by five wickets.

While discussing the Lahore Qalandars’ Player Development Programme (PDP), Akhtar and Niaz got in a verbal spat. Akhtar credited Lahore Qalandars for discovering the pacers like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. On which Niaz commented: “You are being a little rude so I don’t want to say this but if you’re being over-smart then you can go. I am saying this on air.”

After which, Akhtar apologized to the guests and resigned from PTV. He said that he could not continue with the program. he said, “A lot of apologies guys, a lot of apologies. I am resigning from PTV. The way I have been treated on national TV, I don’t think I should be sitting here right now. So, I am resigning. Thank you very much,” and left.

PTV’s Statement And Shoaib’s Reply:

Pakistan Television said in a tweet that anchorperson Dr. Nauman Niaz and former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar will be taken “off-air” until the inquiry committee completes the investigation.

“Well, that’s hilarious. I resigned in front of 220 million Pakistanis & billions across the world. Is PTV crazy or what? Who are they to off-air me?” Akhtar replied after PTV released its statement.

Many former cricketers and other celebrities from different fields are tweeting in the favor of Akhtar. They are saying that a national star should not have been treated like this. Fans are demanding to terminate the contract of Dr. Nauman Niaz, saying he insulted the national hero.
