The SA20 roared to life in Durban on Thursday night as Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive batting propelled Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) to an 11-run win over MI Cape Town.

In a thrilling encounter shortened by rain, Klaasen’s 85 off 35 balls (8×6!) outshone Ryan Rickelton’s 87 off 51 for MI Cape Town, setting the stage for a dramatic Duckworth-Lewis-Stern finish.

Rain Interrupts Thrilling Chase:

DSG chased MI Cape Town’s imposing 207/5, precariously perched at 177/6 with 31 runs needed from 21 balls when rain forced an early end. Klaasen’s late fireworks, including a brutal assault on the spinners, had shifted the momentum towards the home team.

Rickelton Sets the Tone:

Earlier, Rickelton tore through the DSG bowling, smashing England pacer Richard Gleeson for 23 runs in the first over. He shared a 82-run opening stand with Rassie van der Dussen before finding his stumps disturbed by Keamo Paul.

MI Cape Town Fight Back:

Liam Livingstone and Kieron Pollard kept MI Cape Town’s innings ticking over, while West Indies all-rounder Paul proved the most successful bowler for DSG with 2/31.

Early Wickets for DSG:

DSG’s chase started shakily, losing Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder inside the first few overs. Matthew Breetzke and Paul steadied the ship before the latter departed, followed by Breetzke shortly after.

Pooran and Klaasen Combine:

Nicholas Pooran joined Klaasen with the score at 99/4 and 9.5 overs remaining. Pooran provided some momentum before departing, leaving Klaasen to take center stage.

Rabada Strikes But Rain intervenes:

Kieron Pollard brought on Kagiso Rabada to break the dangerous Klaasen partnership, and the Proteas paceman delivered, dismissing Klaasen right before the rain arrived. However, DSG held on for a thrilling victory.

What’s Next:

MI Cape Town travel to Johannesburg to face the Joburg Super Kings, while DSG take on defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Gqeberha on Saturday.
